A weak low pressure wave is pushing into the region Wednesday night, and will spread some light precipitation into the Catskills and Hudson Valley. Temperatures hovering around freezing in the Catskills and upper Hudson Valley will allow for a mix of wet snow and rain showers to develop around midnight… but a slushy coating to an inch of wet snow may accumulate north of Kingston and in the Catskills.

The precipitation will taper off prior to sunrise across the entire region. Roads may be damp for the AM commute, but temps in the mid and upper 30s should keep us all free from any icing concerns. A second batch of scattered rain showers are expected by mid morning, and lasting into the early afternoon hours on Thursday. The heaviest rainfall amounts will be north of I-84, where up to a half inch of rain is possible. The region can really use the precipitation… but because of the position of the upper level trough, the storm will track far enough north to keep the steadiest rainfall amounts focused in the Catskills and points north.

But some signs of spring on this late February day, with highs expected in the low to mid 50s around the region, which is 10 to 15 degrees above average. Our next weak weather event is Friday night into Saturday AM, as another system passes by to our north, a few rain or wet snow showers are possible. More on that as we get closer…
