We’re in the home stretch, with the storm about 12 to 18 hours away. We’re finally seeing some good agreement in the data, and feel more confident with our forecast. No major changes from our preliminary forecast, just some fine tuning.
Timing:
– 12pm to 3pm : Snow develops from SW to NE
– 9pm to 12am : Snow tapers from SW to NE
Impacts:
– Temperatures falling in the afternoon turning bitter cold
– Snow accumulation on all paved surfaces
– Treacherous travel conditions expected Sunday PM
Snow Accumulations:
– NW Catskills: 2 to 6 inches
– Majority of Hudson Valley: 4 to 8 inches

Discussion :
The basic setup was discussed in our preliminary forecast but we’re seeing a blend between the two setups discussed in the preliminary forecast. The low pressure will develop over the Carolinas, and ride NE along the arctic boundary. It will spread snow into the Hudson Valley and northeast during the early afternoon hours… before tapering off around midnight.
Futurecast Radar : 5am Sunday – 7am Monday

The NAM and HRRR guidance, which were in stark contrast at this time yesterday… are now looking very similar to each other. Here are the snowfall projection maps for each computer model…

So based on what we’re seeing… it looks like a widespread 5 to 6 inch snow for most locations… with a few places on the high or low side of that range… so a general 4 to 8 inches should be quite common across the Hudson Valley. More updates to follow throughout the storm on Sunday, be sure to check back for more info…
