Friday Morning Alert: Patchy Areas of Light Freezing Drizzle Possible

Our guidance remains very conflicted regarding the fine details of whether icy conditions will occur during the Friday morning commute. So the best course of action is to plan for the freezing drizzle.

– 6am to 9am: Patchy areas of freezing drizzle possible
– Temps hover between 28° and 34° in the Hudson Valley
– Precipitation struggles to advance into the area due to dry air
– Temps above freezing region wide by 10am
– Steadier widespread light rain arrives after 12pm
The dry air over the northeast will cause the weak storm system’s front edge of precipitation to be delayed. The radar may look active at times Friday morning, but the areas of light drizzle & freezing drizzle could evaporate before reaching the surface.

Still… the prudent thing is to anticipate that the patchy freezing drizzle could cause some very icy travel across parts of the area Friday morning between 6am and 9am. Make sure to observe the conditions in your area, and if the pavement looks wet and shiny… be sure to test if it’s freezing rain or a plain cold rain.

Winter Weather Advisories remain in effect for this very reason. Use caution Friday morning, and we’ll cross our fingers and hope that the ice doesn’t spread into the Lower and Mid Hudson Valley until after the temps climb above freezing. Be safe!!
