Friday Weather Discussion : Weekend Outlook

Our Friday afternoon weather is a fairly good precursor to what the weekend will look like across the Hudson Valley. A persistent trough in the eastern US is poised to keep us unsettled with below average temperatures throughout the entire forecast period (next 7 to 10 days), starting with this weekend.

Friday afternoon we’ll see scattered showers and drizzle across the region, as a weak disturbance tries to push eastward, but weakens as it does. The end result will be low clouds, periods of drizzle and scattered light rain showers… along with temperatures in the 50s. Things should dry out Friday night, and we could start Saturday with a mix of sun and clouds.

Saturday expect sunshine fading behind increasing clouds through the day. A few scattered afternoon showers can’t be ruled out, but highs should push into the low & mid 60s, making for the better of the two weekend days. The low clouds, areas of drizzle and patchy showers will return for Sunday across the valley. This will once again keep us unsettled and damp, with temperatures in the 40s and 50s across the valley.

While this weekend’s weather isn’t exactly going to be the nicest of all time, it won’t be the worst either. Temperatures this weekend will be cool… with highs between 5 and 10 degrees below average for this time of year. Rainfall amounts are projected to be between 0.25″ and 0.50″ over the 3 day period from Friday to Sunday. When you read the forecast above, you might expect closer to 1 or 1.5 inches of rain… but the precipitation this weekend is projected to be very light… despite the persistent low clouds and regular threat of showers and drizzle. So be sure to keep the rain gear handy this weekend, and while conditions will be damp and unsettled for much of the weekend, anyone with outdoor plans will probably be mostly OK… you just will not see as much sunshine (other than Saturday morning) as you might otherwise wish for. Have a great weekend!
