Friday Weather: Wintry Mix Expected to Cause Headaches

Another weather system will take aim on the Hudson Valley to close out the work week, and another round of wintry weather is expected. However, there are some details that need to be ironed out.

Cold air is expected to filter into the Hudson Valley Thursday night, as another storm system approaches from the southwest. Wet snow, possibly mixing with sleet and freezing rain… is expected to push into the Hudson Valley during the Friday morning commute… and we should see periods of light to moderate snow, sleet and freezing rain through the afternoon hours on Friday afternoon.

There is considerable disagreement in the data, as it pertains to exactly what type of wintry precipitation we see across the region. Chances are decent that we start as wet snow… possibly changing over to a wintry mix, at least up to the I-84 corridor. The northern-most areas could stay mainly snow, while the southern-most areas could remain mainly a chilly rain again.

Impacts will depend on the exact details… Some guidance suggests several inches of snow for much of the region… while other data suggests a quick changeover to sleet and freezing rain Friday morning… making for an icy Friday. We’ll be watching this closely as we go through the next 24 hours, and share updates as we have a better idea of exactly what to expect.

Be safe Wednesday night, as some icy spots are possible as temps dip below freezing.
