Frost / Freeze Potential : Saturday night / Sunday AM

– Sunday AM lows likely near freezing (below freezing mountains)
– Frost or hard freeze possible before dawn Sunday

We’ve got some rain showers to contend with Friday night, as a frontal boundary pushes through the region. Things should dry out by Saturday AM, but the clouds are likely to linger for much of the day. A light NW wind should help combine w/ the clouds to keep temperatures in the 50s on Saturday around the region. We likely dodge a nor’easter Saturday night, with a close call that will impact eastern New England with rain and wind.

Instead of a nor’easter… we’ll have a different hazard to contend with… a potential frost or freeze Saturday night into Sunday AM. The boundary pushes offshore, allowing cold air to filter into the region. With light winds and mainly clear skies, we should see maximum radiational cooling across the valley. Temps will fall into the 30s by midnight, with overnight lows expected to dip into the low and mid 30s. Higher elevations could be even colder, with temps falling into the upper 20s Sunday AM.

With the light winds… a hard frost or freeze could be possible in many locations. As we have turned the calendar over to May… many folks have begun the planting season, and could have sensitive vegetation at risk. Make sure you take the appropriate steps to protect your plants. It’s not a guaranteed frost/freeze situation, but anytime the temps drop into the mid 30s or colder, you definitely want to prepare. And for those wondering, this likely won’t be the last frost/freeze threat of the season… as our chilly pattern likely lasts into mid May.

We’ll have more on this Saturday… but start preparing now… Have a great night!
