This Week's Featured Hiking Trail-

Brace Mountain Trail- Experts

This hike in the Taconic Range is NOT for the faint of heart or out of shape. Though less than 4 miles, it requires major effort — but is worth every step. Most of the work comes at the start, a steep ascent requiring hands in some places. (You’ll pass a very pretty waterfall; stop to enjoy and catch your breath.) Up top, you’ll amble through open, ridgetop meadows (look for wild blueberries in summer) offering a taste of the scenic splendor to come. When you reach Brace’s cairn-topped summit, sit a spell and admire the magnificence — farm fields in the foreground, the Shawangunks and Catskills across the Hudson.

More to explore: Restaurants in Millerton will slake your hunger after this strenuous hike. There also are some fun shops to explore, including Harney & Sons Fine Tea.

Highlights

  • Outstanding views
  • Challenging (probably not for young children)
