In Memoriam… Marsha Shapiro-Marra

My first weather books. My first weather journal. My first weather station.
She was the one driving me around to see storm damage after bad weather.
She let me write her forecasts and predictions for her day at work.
She sat with me for hours while I watched The Weather Channel on loop—sharing in my thrill as if each update was something brand new.
She fueled and supported my passion for weather since childhood.
She was one of my very first followers when I created Hudson Valley Weather on Facebook.
An HVW bumper sticker still proudly decorates her car.
She always pushed me to do more live videos, to sign my name under my updates—
because she never wanted a single person to question what I had started.
She was the epitome of my biggest fan.
If not for her nurturing, her belief in me, and her unwavering support,
there would be no Hudson Valley Weather.
So to all of you who have loyally followed HVW over the years—
who’ve come to depend on it,
who’ve made life decisions around it,
or in some cases, credited it with helping save lives or property—
please take a moment to remember my mom.
She was the architect.
Without her foundational love and encouragement, this page would never have existed.
I love you, Mom.
And when the teachers complained that my head was always in the clouds—
thanks for believing it was only because I loved the clouds so much.
