After some late summer warmth around the Hudson Valley over the weekend, we’ll see the unseasonably warm weather continue into the work week. Temperatures 10 to 15 degrees above average for Monday into Tuesday… as we see highs around 80°.
But a Canadian cold front will dive southward Tuesday afternoon and evening, and that should begin to spread scattered rain showers into the region by sunset on Tuesday. We’ll expect periods of rain showers Tuesday night into Wednesday morning as the front passes to our southeast. Rainfall amounts appear rather light… with around 0.50″ to 0.75″ on average… but with the entire Hudson Valley now abnormally dry, the moisture is very much needed.
But now that we’re into October, this Canadian air mass will bring with it some sharply colder air. So after the showers push through on Wednesday… expect blustery winds to usher in some much colder air for Wednesday into Thursday.

Highs on Wednesday will top out in the low 60s… followed by overnight lows in the mid 30s Thursday morning. With calming winds… and clear skies… temperatures could fall into the low and mid 30s both Thursday and Friday morning… and this could result in the first semi-widespread frost or freeze of the season. We’ll surely keep our eye on this possibility, and share updates as we get closer… but if you have sensitive plants you may want to begin planning ahead.
Some much needed rain, followed by some much cooler temperatures. Some big changes coming our way this week. Enjoy the summer-like weather while you can!
