Monday Discussion: Canadian Airmass Brings Big Changes

After a week of heat and humidity, we watched a cold front push through Sunday night. The NW flow has pushed out all the humidity and the mid summer heat… leaving us with crisp night time air, and afternoon highs more typical of late spring or early fall. So after Hudson Valley highs near 90° on Sunday… afternoon highs on Monday have been roughly 15° to 20° cooler… in the low to mid 70s!

Monday night… open up those windows, and let the cool air in! Partly to mostly clear skies are expected with a crisp, cool air mass in place. We’ll watch those overnight temperatures tumble into the low to mid 50s. Even a few upper 40s can’t be ruled out in the traditionally colder spots.

Tuesday… looks very similar to Monday. Sunshine, blue skies… mixing with fair weather clouds. Low humidity will make for a very comfortable feel to the air. Afternoon highs once again in the mid to upper 70s, which is 3 to 5 degrees below average for mid August in the Hudson Valley.

Tuesday Night… not quite as crisp as Monday night… but certainly a beautiful summer night. Partly cloudy early, with increasing overnight clouds, and low temperatures in the mid to upper 50s.

Wednesday… . Mostly cloudy skies, with scattered showers becoming likely during the late morning hours. Scattered afternoon showers & T-Storms. Highs in the mid to upper 70s. Best chance of rain will be the northern counties and Catskills.

Mid week a low pressure system advances from the Great Lakes, and spreads scattered showers into the region Wednesday. We’ll have to track the system to see how much rain makes its way into the Hudson Valley. The system exits for Thursday and things then dry out once again… but the rainfall would be welcome in most areas. This frontal boundary passing by will be a big player in helping push Hurricane Erin eastward… back out into the ocean. Check back for updates through the week.
