Monday Discussion: Mid-Week Showers Possible

Another gorgeous weekend in the books across the Hudson Valley.  With lots of sunshine and blue skies, along with highs in the low 80s.  That beautiful weather continues into the work week.

The week starts off just like the weekend… lots of sunshine and blue skies.  Highs on Monday will once again climb into the upper 70s to near 80°.  That’s about 5 degrees above average for mid September, which is fantastic for anyone with outdoor plans.

But a weak coastal disturbance off the southeast US. will spread clouds and patchy showers inland across the Mid-Atlantic.  This means increasing clouds by late on Monday, and those clouds will only increase further on Tuesday, holding temperatures down a couple degrees… afternoon highs on Tuesday should be in the mid to upper 70s.

By Wednesday, we should have mostly cloudy skies, and possibly a few scattered showers and patchy areas of drizzle to contend with…

Futurecast Radar : 8am Tuesday to 8am Thursday

The area of disturbance along the Mid Atlantic pushes into the Hudson Valley and NYC area by Wednesday morning.  The data is conflicted on how far north these rain showers make it.  That’s thanks to the strong high pressure trying to hold on over eastern Canada.  That high pressure influence will sink south into New England… and will suppress the weak low pressure from moving too far north.  So the further north you go, the more likely you are to stay completely dry… the further south, the better the odds you see rain showers on Wednesday and Thursday.  Rainfall amounts near the coast could be near an inch… but closer to the Hudson Valley, 0.10 to 0.25 is probably the most we’ll see before the high pressure causes the rain showers to fizzle out.

By late week, high pressure likely retakes control of our weather, and another fine weekend is expected next weekend.  The next best chance for an organized storm system appears to be early middle of next week… around Tue 9/24 or Wed 9/25.  Until then… we’ll keep our eyes on the weather potential in the shorter term.  Have a great start to the week!
