With everyone’s eyes firmly fixed on the potential mid week winter storm, the likelihood of some light snow showers on Monday, may catch a lot of people by surprise. The good news, is that it should not be a significant event. However, that does not mean that this system doesn’t have the potential to cause some headaches.

A weak low pressure system will push off the east coast on Monday. The system will stay mainly south of our area, however… it appears likely that a band of precipitation will push far enough north, that it will overspread much of the Hudson Valley in the form of light snow.
Futurecast Radar : 6am Mon – 6pm Mon
The snow band develops and overspreads the Hudson Valley from SW to NE during the morning hours, and continues into the early afternoon hours. Temperatures will range between 32° and 35° on average, so the snow will struggle to accumulate on main roads in the valley, but back roads and sidewalks could become icy and snow covered… especially in the lower Hudson Valley.
Because this system clips the Hudson Valley from the south… we expect the best chance for snow accumulations to be in the southern-most portions of the region.
Here is the HRRR model’s projection for snow on Monday. Generally from I-84 on north, it’s a dusting to an inch, which is consistent with our snow map as we see it. It’s not a significant event… but surely has the potential to cause some slick spots. From I-84 on south, it’s a coating to 2 inches… possibly 3 inches in a few spots of Westchester and Rockland county. Anyone travelling on Monday, will want to plan for the potential of some light snow… possibly even some moderate snow well south of I-84. You may want to leave yourself a few extra minutes to get to your destination.
Once again, this system is not a major event, but for many…. it will be the first accumulating snow event of the season, even if it is very light, and temps may be a degree or two above freezing. The first snow of the year always brings extra headaches with it… so just keep that in mind.
