Our first true heatwave of 2026 is underway. It actually began on Sunday, when the Poughkeepsie weather station recorded a high of 90°. The heat is building quickly once again with temperatures in the mid 80s as we approach mid day, under mainly sunny skies. Highs this afternoon should climb all the way into the low 90s. Humidity levels shouldn’t be too oppressive, with dew points likely in the low 60s. But since we have not seen temperatures like this in quite some time… it will feel even hotter to many of us.
Tuesday will be the hottest day… with mostly sunny skies once again and a hot SW wind. Morning lows Tuesday will only fall into the mid & upper 60s, and will quickly surge back into the low to mid 90s for afternoon highs. Once again, the humidity levels should not be too uncomfortable, but the hottest temps of 2026 so far will feel oppressive to some in their own right.
After another mild night Tuesday night, where overnight lows only fall near 70°… Wednesday will start off the same as Tuesday. A mix of clouds and sun… hot and hazy… with temps climbing near 90° by mid day. But an approaching cold front will bring DRAMATIC changes to the region for Thursday (highs in the 60s). But this front does not appear likely to have a lot of moisture associated with it. So a few isolated showers and maybe a localized strong to severe T-Storm seem possible. We’ll keep our eyes on this event, but it does not currently project to be a widespread issue.
Grab an extra water bottle and stay cool friends… the heat, is definitely on across the Hudson Valley!
