A low pressure system approaches early on Wednesday, and will pass by to our north during the day. It will bring a period of precipitation to the Hudson Valley, which will likely bring a variety of weather to the region once again.

The front edge of the moisture reaches the northern half of the valley by early/mid morning, but likely remains north of I-84 through mid day. The front approaches between noon and 3pm for most of us from west to east, and will spread an area of wet snow mixed with rain across the valley areas. Temperatures are expected to be between 32° and 37° in the valley areas, so it’s possible some places will mix with or change to rain… especially south of I-84. Temps should fall a couple degrees when the precipitation starts… so a quick burst of heavy snow is possible. With valley temps expected above freezing, the snow may struggle to accumulate on paved surfaces. The precipitation should taper off as flurries and wet snow showers after sunset.
Accumulations should be light. A slushy coating to 2 inches are possible in the valley, and that’s primarily north of I-84. The colder hill towns are more likely to see the accumulations of an inch or more. The chances for accumulating snow increases as you go further north, and especially in the Catskills… where 2 to 5 inches of snow are possible, even 6″ in the highest peaks.
Some slick spots are possible for the Wednesday PM commute, so keep that in mind as you plan your day. We’ll have additional updates possible late tonight or early tomorrow morning.
