Post Christmas Outlook : Who’s ready for more snow?

Not only has December been one of the coldest in the last decade vs average, but it has been a big snow producer, with 4-5 plowable events already before Christmas. This compared to a lot of our recent Decembers where we hadn’t even had our first snow yet.
It’s not done yet…..
Another clipper system will dive into the region on Friday and track to our south, guidance has been quite aggressive with the strength of this low pressure, but it has been waffling a bit with its track. Expect guidance to really dial in a bit over the next 12 hours as this energy gets some better sampling in the west coast. The exact track of this low will determine if the swath of heaviest snow is to our south or directly across our region. If we get into the heavy snow this would likely be a 6”+ event for most of the region. If the track shifts south, we would be on the northern edge and we would see light amounts.

Snow looks to break out Friday afternoon from west to east, potentially becoming heavy at times overnight and tapering off mid morning on Saturday. We will target this evening/tonight for a prelim snowfall map. Looking beyond this period, models are depicting an overrunning event on Sunday evening which may result in icing conditions that could have implications on Monday AM commutes.

This active pattern is with us for awhile, so continue to stay tuned as storms will continue to impact the region into early January.
Check out last nights Facebook live with Bill for even more details on the storm ahead and the pattern.
