Rain & Wind on the Way for Thursday

A deep upper level trough has moved into the Ohio Valley, and it will result in an intensifying storm system developing overnight. This storm will have significant impacts on the Hudson Valley over the next 36 hours, before this system departs Friday morning.
? Thursday : Cloudy with scattered rain showers, becoming more widespread and heavy during the afternoon. Windy. Highs in the upper 50s. Gusts 15 to 25mph.
? Thursday night: Periods of rain with wind, heavy at times. Temps holding in the 50s. Winds 10 to 20mph, gusting to 35mph.
? Friday: Clouds mixing with breaks of sun, windy with a scattered shower possible. Highs in the mid 50s.
? Trick-or-Treat Weather: Windy! Mostly cloudy and chilly. Temps in the upper 40s to low 50s. Wind chills in the upper 30s to low 40s. Winds W 10 to 20mph, gusts 30 to 40mph.

This storm will take an inland track, which likely pulls the heaviest rainfall totals west of the Hudson Valley. The steadiest rainfall late tonight into Thursday will be to our west, with periods of rain showers reaching into the Hudson Valley. The area of heaviest rain slides into the Hudson Valley Thursday PM and into the night time hours. In total, we expect 1 to 2 inches of rain across the region, with the highest totals in the Catskills and higher elevations.

Winds will also begin gusting early on Thursday, and intensify with the rain Thursday afternoon. Winds are likely to gust 20 to 35mph Thursday afternoon and evening, so make sure you’re prepared for that. Winds may calm overnight Thursday… but once the low passes on Friday, we expect winds to re-intensify out of the west Friday afternoon, gusting between 30 and 40mph. Trick-or-Treat time looks dry, but chilly and blustery!

We’ll be tracking this closely over the next 24 hours, more updates to come…
