There’s a chance for some isolated showers to pass through our area of HVW between 9am to 12 noon .. But the main severe weather event starts around 5pm in our western counties of Delaware and Sullivan and continues eastward across the rest of the HVW area. Storms will be moving generally from west to east. All precipitation should exit our eastern counties by around 8am Sunday morning.

This unsettled weather is brought on by an approaching cold front this evening .. The first cold front is not that strong, but the second cold front tomorrow (Sunday) will finally make it feel more like fall starting around Monday. The severe storms have the potential of hail, strong damaging wind gusts of 40+ mph, heavy downpours, and frequent lightning. There’s a chance that some of these storms could train over the same area creating the chance of flash flooding. If you are near any lakes, streams, creeks, or rivers, please keep an eye on the water level conditions around you and seek higher ground if the waters start rising. Please do not drive through flooded roads .. “Turn Around, Don’t Drown” … Sections of road can be washed out and you can’t see that if it’s covered with water.
How severe the storms will be today will depend on how much sun shines through the clouds or open space in the clouds that will help heat things up and destabilize the atmosphere that helps create strong storms. So, there’s a possibility that not all areas of HVW will be severe .. just the areas that receive the most sun. Stay away from downed trees and wires and treat as if they are live and call them in. If outdoors camping, please be aware of your surroundings with the possibility of falling trees and especially if you’re near the water. Keep cell phones charged and report any power outages. Since this severe weather event will be happening overnight, please keep flashlights handy and make sure they work. Severe storms at night are the worse since you really can’t see what’s going on outside other than the flashes of lightning.
This is what the latest weather data is showing right now and will change each hour in the latest HRRR weather model. So please check back for the latest weather information. This sounds like doom and gloom and hype, but it’s not .. It’s just a heads up of what is potentially possible. Let’s just hope nothing severe happens. It’s a three day weekend for some, so for those outdoors, just be safe.
We’ve all been through these severe weather events this season, so we should all know the drill. Please be safe
