Snow and Wintry Mix Possible Sun Pm/Mon Am

An area of low pressure will pass to our south Sunday PM into Monday AM, thanks to this southerly track and the cold air mass currently in place across the region, this could lead to some wintry conditions precipitation for the Monday AM commute.  While snowfall looks like a sure bet across the higher elevations west of the Hudson, snow is also possible across the lower elevations, especially north of I84. Here’s a look at what the surface map may look like for the AM commute. Snow accumulations will be generally light, but higher amounts are possible above 1000’.

Secondary concern will be related to the cold airmass in place leading into Monday, temps will be below freezing in many locations from now until Monday AM. This will allow surfaces to get quite cold, so a period of freezing rain is also likely early Monday as precipitation will freeze on contact with colder surfaces. Parts of Ulster, Orange and Sullivan are areas of the most concern for a period of freezing rain, below is a look at where the short range guidance believes a period of icing is possible.

By late morning to midday, depending on elevation the precip will gradually change to rain, and precip will eventually end by mid afternoon with rapidly improving conditions.  We will of-course continue to update on this event over the weekend and refine the forecast as we get closer, for now please continue to stay tuned for additional updates.
