The Hudson Valley experienced its first widespread major snowstorm in several years. A massive system impacting the majority of the nation overspread our region on Sunday… dropping large amounts of gulf moisture, over top of bitter cold temperatures. The result was a widespread 12 to 18″ snowfall for the region… which shut the entire region down for a day and a half.
Looking back, the storm behaved well compared to our forecast data. The sleet boundary didn’t push quite as far north as we had feared. The cold air held its ground, and the majority of the region remained all snow. Accordingly, our snowfall forecast verified for most of the region. If you compare our snowfall forecast map to the actual storm history map… it’s quite close.

This storm was the most significant snowfall event for the region in quite some time. How many more will there be in this winter? That remains to be seen… but the pattern is quite active… that’s for certain.
