Summer Strikes with a Vengeance …

After what seems like weeks of low clouds & fog… along with cool and damp conditions… the heat and humidity will turn up the dial quickly on Thursday around the Hudson Valley, and bring with it… the threat for severe weather.

Wednesday’s low clouds just won’t seem to break around the region. But peeks of sunshine should increase as the day wears on. Highs on Wednesday should climb into the upper 70s. But temperatures won’t fall much below the mid 60s tonight, along with high humidity… setting the stage for Thursday.
Hazy, hot and humid conditions are expected on Thursday across the Hudson Valley. Highs in the upper 80s to low 90s are expected. Afternoon dew points in upper 60s to near 70° will provide ‘real feel’ heat index values in the low to mid 90s. It will feel every bit of summer on Thursday.
With the humidity comes an unstable air mass, and an approaching upper level trough will push a frontal boundary toward the region. This is likely to kick off scattered strong to severe showers & T-Storms in the Hudson Valley. These storm cells could become very potent, and there is a “slight risk” of severe weather in our area. This means roughly a 15% to 30% chance of a severe T-Storm in your area. The primary threat are damaging wind gusts… but we cannot rule out hail or an isolated tornado. The timing on the threat will be fine tuned as we get closer… but for now, between 2pm and 8pm appears to be the period of concern, with the peak period likely between 4pm and 7pm. Be sure to factor this into your plans for Thursday.
Many of you have grown weary of the cloudy and cool conditions… well some MAJOR CHANGES are coming our way next week. After a near average weekend, the serious heat and humidity build next week. Starting on Monday we could be talking about afternoon highs in the low to mid 90s… with afternoon heat index values around 100°. Summer is coming… make sure you get ready…
Have a great day…
