Sunday Afternoon Discussion : Here Comes Summer…

A gorgeous Sunday afternoon unfolding across the region.  Across the Hudson Valley we’ve got a mix of clouds and sunshine, along with temperatures in the mid 70s as of 3pm.  With average highs for this time of year being right around 70°… that puts our Sunday right about 5 degrees above average.  A fantastic day for mid May.

As we look forward at the week ahead, a tranquil weather pattern is setting up for the next several days.  High pressure over the eastern US will allow for a southern flow, which will give us even warmer weather.  That starts on Monday, with a mix of clouds and sunshine.  Highs in the mid to upper 70s are expected.

Tuesday we’ll see more sunshine mixing with clouds, with temperatures climbing a few more degrees, with highs expected in the low to mid 80s.  The heat builds a bit more on Wednesday, with highs climbing into the mid and upper 80s!

The heat could be as much as 15 to 20 degrees above average for this time of year.  The humidity levels will be elevated, but not oppressive.  So the ‘real feel’ temperatures should be close to the air temperatures.  But a summer preview is heading our way for the first half of the week.

Our next shot at rain will come with a weak frontal boundary Wednesday night into Thursday.  The passage of the front will bring the threat of showers, but not a lot in terms of rainfall.

Over the next 7 days we’re projected to see less than a half inch of rainfall, as the weather pattern dries out for the first half of the week, and once the weak front pushes through on Thursday, the temperatures will cool down, but things look to remain rather dry.  Which will give the ground an opportunity to dry out a bit, after we’ve seen a rather wet spring across the valley.

A gorgeous end to the weekend, and start to the work week.  Enjoy!
