We’re in the midst of a beautiful weekend across the Hudson Valley. Lots of sunshine and blue skies, and temperatures in the low 70s, which is about 5 degrees above average for this time of year.

So while we have a beautiful weekend of weather to enjoy… some considerable changes are on the way. A cold front will drop into the Hudson Valley overnight Sunday night into Monday. It’s a pretty strong cold front, so a squall line of showers & T-Storms are expected to form. But the good news for us is that by the time that squall line reaches the Hudson Valley between 11pm and 3am Sunday night (Monday morning)… it should have weakened considerably.
Futurecast Radar: Monday at 2am

The line of showers pushes through the region by sunrise on Monday, but a few showers and even a rumble of thunder may linger into the Monday morning commute. Something you should be prepared for if heading out to work and school Monday morning. But conditions should improve gradually on Monday, and winds will become blustery out of the NW Monday afternoon. Expect highs in the upper 60s to near 70°, but temps likely falling later in the day.
Cool Air Settles Into the Northeast

The jet stream will dive south for the first time in a while, and allow some cooler Canadian air to filter into the region. This will give us afternoon highs by Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in the low to mid 60s. Those temperatures are cool for early October, about 5 degrees below average. But the other side of that coin are the overnight and early morning low temperatures. With that cool air out of Canada, along with clear skies and calm winds… we can expect to see some of the coldest air temperatures since May!

Lows across the valley project into the mid and upper 30s Tuesday night, Wednesday night and Thursday night. The coldest night right now appears to be Wednesday night… where the entire Hudson Valley will have to keep guard out for some patchy frost! The first frost of the season can’t be ruled out this week… but the best opportunities will be in the traditionally colder locations. However, if the image above is correct from the GFS model, frost could be possible even down into the Mid Hudson Valley. Something we’ll be watching very closely in the coming days.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend Hudson Valley, it’s going to be a gorgeous Sunday! For anyone who may be interested in the tropics, over on our Facebook page, Todd will be sharing regular updates on Tropical Storm Milton, which is expected to intensify to a hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico and take aim on Florida. The tropics have heated up over the past week, so that storm definitely bears watching. Have a great Sunday!
