Sunday Weather: Hot & Humid Pattern is Locked In

A hot and very humid air mass has settled over the northeast US over the past week or so, and that pattern doesn’t appear likely to give way any time soon. The jet stream is locked in to our north… and that will keep any cool, Canadian air from drifting too far south. Without another storm system to push our current air mass out of the area… it will likely linger for several more days. As a result, you’ll see a similar forecast for most of the coming work week. In short… very warm, humid, with a slight chance of an isolated afternoon shower or T-Storm.

For Sunday… we’ll have clouds mixing with sunshine. Morning temperatures will start off in the mid and upper 60s with a good deal of humidity. The humidity will linger as the daytime sun heats the atmosphere. Afternoon highs should climb into the low and mid 80s. Dew points in the upper 60s to low 70s should make for afternoon “real feel” heat index values in the low to mid 90s. A broken line of isolated showers & Storms is likely to form over central NY Sunday afternoon, and could spread 1 or 2 isolated showers or storms into the Hudson Valley (roughly a 20% chance).
Sunday night dew points will remain high, keeping that humid feel to the air. This will make for a warm and humid start to the week, with Monday morning lows only projected in the upper 60s in the valley by Monday morning. Monday temperatures will climb again into the mid 80s once again, with high humidity making it feel like the upper 80s to low 90s during the afternoon hours… and we once again will be on guard for an isolated afternoon shower or T-Storm.

We’ll track the threat for any showers & T-Storms through the week, as well as the heat and humidity… which may intensify a bit as we move into mid week. By Wednesday afternoon we could see afternoon highs near 90° and real feel temps in the mid to upper 90s. The dog days of summer are here… try and have a great Sunday!
