The Week Ahead : Canadian Air Mass Returns

Summer time heat tried to inch its way back into the Hudson Valley over the weekend, with highs climbing into the low to mid 80s Saturday, but clouds kept highs down near 80° on Sunday. A frontal boundary will push near the region Sunday night into early Monday… with a weakening line of showers and T-Storms expected to fall apart before reaching the Hudson Valley. A few showers are possible before sunrise in the valley… but the best chance for rain showers or a T-Storm will be in the Catskills.

?Monday…. clouds will give way to increasing sunshine with low humidity and afternoon highs in the low 80s expected. A stray shower can’t be ruled out, as the boundary passes by to our east.

?Monday night… partly to mostly clear skies, turning cooler with overnight lows in the mid 50s expected.

?Tuesday… Partly to mostly sunny skies… cooler, with low humidity. Highs in the mid to upper 70s expected.
Looking to mid week… a beautiful week of weather is expected across our region. An upper level trough will take hold over the eastern US. This will allow cool, Canadian air to filter down from Canada. That cool… dry air will be accompanied by high pressure, keeping our weather quiet for the majority of the week. Expect lots of sun… Wednesday, Thursday and likely Friday as well… with highs in the mid to upper 70s expected, which is 5° to 8° below average for this time of year.
Overnight lows will be refreshing, with temps falling into the low and mid 50s in much of the valley… with some upper 40s being possible in the cooler areas. A taste of early fall for sure around the region.

This type of pattern keeps any heat suppressed across the southern US, making it look like the heart of summer has come to an end for the Hudson Valley. Sure, we’ll have a few hot days here or there… but the extended pattern looks to feature a lot more Canadian air masses pushing into our area.

We’ll be here to share the details with you along the way. Have a great start to your week!
