The Week Ahead : More Active Pattern Ahead

A relatively mild start to the work week across the Hudson Valley, with partly to mostly sunny skies, and highs in the upper 30s. A cold front will dive southeast Monday night into Tuesday with some fairly strong wind gusts. Gusts of 25 to 35mph appear possible, which could make for wind chills in the teens Monday night. A late night cold front passes with some possible snow showers and possibly a snow squall… which could make for a few slick spots Tuesday morning.

Tuesday looks mostly cloudy and colder, with highs holding in the 20s. A clipper system dives into the Great Lakes Tuesday night. This could touch off a period of light snow across parts of the region. Early guidance suggests the best chance for light snow will be in the northern parts of the valley. A dusting to an inch or so appears possible between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning… which could make for some slick spots Wednesday morning.

Thursday appears rather quiet… but cold, as another arctic front pushes through behind the Clipper system on Wednesday. Then our attention turns to the end of the week. A dramatic change in the upper air pattern will bring the possibility of milder air to the Hudson Valley… but will also bring the potential for storm systems. The track of the late week storm must be watched, as it could keep the low pressure just to our south… which could allow for a period of snow, or wintry mix. If the storm tracks a bit further north, we could change over to rain. But we’ll need to monitor this closely through the week.

Some milder air at times, but also a busier weather pattern to close out the month of January. Check back with us for updates through the week.
