The Week Ahead : Some Welcome Chances at Rain Showers

Another beautiful weekend across the Hudson Valley is in the books.  Sunday was our first day of Fall, and we now head into the final week of September, looking for some rain and signs of autumn weather.  We haven’t had any rainfall in the last week, and only saw one to two inches of rain in the past 30 days, which is roughly 30% to 40% of normal.  So after 7 to 8 months of near average rainfall… we could really use some rainfall around the region this week.

Monday could bring some minor changes, as a weak frontal boundary approaches and brings clouds and scattered showers to the Hudson Valley.

Mainly cloudy skies are expected on Monday, with afternoon highs struggling to reach 70°.  When we look at the futurecast radar, it shows that the showers will struggle to move into the Hudson Valley.

Futurecast Radar: 7am Monday to 8pm Tuesday

You can see the showers Monday morning move east, but run into the western edge of high pressure that has been in control of our weather for several days.  We’ll have to see how far east the showers make it before dissipating.  But it looks like 0.05″ to 0.10″ of rain is all we can expect in the Hudson Valley, between Monday and Tuesday.

However, the frontal boundary will push further east on Wednesday… and we should get another chance at showers Wednesday and Thursday.  The better chance of showers likely is on Wednesday and Thursday, but even those two days are not expected to see more than a half inch of rain or so in most places.

We’ll have to monitor the threat as we move through the week.  But by the end of the week, we expect the high pressure to take over once again, and should suppress the rain showers south of the Hudson Valley for the weekend.

We’ll also be watching the threat of tropical weather on the southeast coast as we go through the week.  A very ominous threat possible for some areas of the southeast US, with a potential hurricane developing and possibly targeting Florida or the Southeast.

Have a great start to the week!
