While the threat of snow on Sunday night is the first on many people’s mind… we want to make sure that people don’t overlook the brutally cold arctic air on the way behind that storm threat.

A deep trough of arctic air will dig into the center of the US over the weekend, and push south and east by early next week, sending the entire nation into the deep freeze. While the core of the cold air will focus in the Ohio Valley, here in the Hudson Valley we won’t be spared either. By Monday and Tuesday, highs in the Hudson Valley will be pinned down in the teens… possibly near 10° in some areas by Tuesday. Then with a fresh snowpack (potentially), as the winds calm and the skies clear… we could see widespread overnight lows near or below 0° in the valley.

This computer guidance has Poughkeepsie reaching an afternoon high of 12° on Tuesday, and an overnight low of -6° Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. Not cold enough??… Monticello shows a high of 5° and a low of -11°!
This doesn’t even account for the gusty winds on Monday and Tuesday… that will generate wind chills between 0° and -15° at times! These temperatures will be potentially dangerous for anyone exposed to these conditions without proper clothing. So make sure you start planning ahead.
Some of the coldest air we’ve seen in a long time is on the way. Make sure you start planning now to stay ahead of this. Bundle up & stay warm, Hudson Valley!!
