Tuesday Discussion: Weak System Clips Hudson Valley

With the arctic cold air in place over the Hudson Valley and Northeast, we’re monitoring the potential for an Alberta Clipper to impact our weather Wednesday night into Thursday morning.

The system will pass by well to our north, and so the amount of precipitation that actually makes it into the Hudson Valley is still in question.  But it appears that enough moisture will push far enough south to give us a period of light snow is possible Wednesday night into Thursday morning.

Futurecast Radar Loop : Wednesday 7am to Thursday 7am

Areas of light snow are likely to begin developing Wednesday night around midnight, as the moisture from the Alberta Clipper begins to push into the valley.  There’s the potential of some last minute coastal enhancement of the precipitation, which could give us a burst of snow after midnight.

But with the timing of the enhancement expected to be last minute, it’s likely that the heaviest snow occurs east of the Hudson Valley… into Connecticut and Massachusetts.  Even so, a period of light to moderate snow could drop a quick coating to an inch or two across parts of the Hudson Valley Wednesday night into Thursday morning.

This could cause some headaches for the Thursday morning commute… possibly some delays, and maybe a few school cancelations.  Something that everyone will be monitoring closely over the next couple days.  Should anything change, we’ll be sure to pass that along… but either way… we’ll have updates each day as we get closer…
