After a winter storm clipped the Hudson Valley on Monday, and provided a dusting to a half inch of snow to many parts of the region, winter’s harsh chill returns to the region. The deepening storm off shore will generate strong northwest winds beginning on Tuesday, and those winds will be with us through Thursday.
Futurecast Wind Gusts: 7pm Monday – 7pm Wednesday

Winds across the Hudson Valley on Tuesday will be sustained at 10 to 25mph, and gust 30 to 40mph… possibly up to 50mph in the Catskills. A very blustery and cold day for sure on Tuesday.
Highs on Tuesday will be very cold as well… with highs only in the mid and upper 20s around the valley.
Forecast High Temperatures on Tuesday

But with those persistent howling NW winds on Tuesday and on into Wednesday… it will never even feel that “warm”. It’s going to feel much colder.

When you factor in the gusty winds to the bitter cold temperatures, we’ll have real feel temperatures in the valley in the low to mid teens… and the higher elevations will feel like the single digits! But that’s what it will feel like during the middle of the afternoon, at the warmest point of the day. At night, when the sun goes down and the winds continue to gust out of the NW at 10 to 25mph, you’re going to have wind chills near or below zero!

These temperatures aren’t quite as cold as the mid December arctic blast… but they’re darn sure close. I don’t think anyone will be “relieved” that temperatures are as frigid as Mid/late December. You’re going to want to dress very warmly over the next 3 days. As highs in the 20s, combined with howling NW winds… will result in 3 days of wind chills being locked in the single digits and teens during the day! Stay warm!!
