You’ve waited a long time… but the payoff comes over the next few days! A strong upper level ridge of high pressure settles over the eastern US, and allows a strong southerly flow to send very warm air northward… into the Hudson Valley and Northeast, and it will last for the next 3 days.
Tuesday…
Sunshine will mix with clouds, and temperatures will surge into the mid 70s by noon time, and into the low and mid 80s for afternoon highs across the Hudson Valley. That’s roughly 25 degrees above the average high for this time of year, which is closer to 60°. We won’t break any records today (Poughkeepsie record for 4/14 is 91°), but we’ll have to wait and see about Wednesday and Thursday.
With the summertime temperatures, come the threat of late day summer-like T-Storms. A broken line of scattered showers and embedded T-Storms may reach the Catskills into the Mid-Hudson Valley between 4pm and 10pm. There’s roughly a 40% to 50% chance of seeing precipitation… and only a 5% to 15% chance of severe weather. But we’ll pass along updates and alerts as things get active later today.

Wednesday & Thursday…
The heat continues on Wednesday and Thursday, with a good deal of sun and highs in the mid to possibly upper 80s in a few places. Records will be hard to beat, with Wednesday’s record of 90° and Thursday of 91°, meaning Wed. is the best chance of breaking a record with this air mass. We’ll let you know how things look each day.
Enjoy the summer preview, friends!
