It is possible… for some of us. A weak low pressure system in the Ohio Valley will be forced to our south, thanks to Canadian high pressure just to our north. As the moisture passes by to our south… the cold, dry air from the high pressure to our north will try to interact with the moisture… and create a thin band of light snow on the northern edge of this system… right across the Mid and Lower Hudson Valley.
?Timing: 3am to 9am
?Concern: snow covered & icy roads… hazardous commute
?Chance: 30% north of I-84 ; 50% I-84 corridor; 60% Rockland & Westchester
There’s not a lot of moisture… and the dry air is pushing south… so exactly how far north this band of light snow makes it, is very much in question. Computer guidance has been sensing the moisture may extend a bit further north than previously expected… which could bring the light snow into parts of our area. The best chance for light snow is from the I-84 corridor on south… with chances increasing the further south you go.
Snow accumulations appear generally light, but it doesn’t take much to cause major headaches at this time of season. Temps are expected to be 30° to 34° around the region, so a light dusting to an inch or so is possible… and may even accumulate on paved surfaces in some places.
This is not a major weather event, and not guaranteed to reach our area. But because it would be the first snow of the season, we want to alert everyone to the potential for a slick AM commute tomorrow in some areas. We’re watching this VERY closely this afternoon and will have more discussion this evening.
