An upper level trough is digging into the eastern US, and it is bringing the first of several waves of low pressure to the Northeast and Hudson Valley. This radar loop as of 4pm shows the rain that is currently falling in western NY and PA… and how it is on the march eastward.
Timing:
– 4pm to 8pm : Scattered showers develop (mainly west of Hudson River)
– 8pm to 11pm : Steady rain develops from west to east
– 11pm to 6am : Periods of light to moderate rain
– 6am to 10am : Rain tapers to scattered light rain showers
The rain will slowly push into the region this evening… gradually becoming steadier and heavier from west to east. By midnight, the entire region should be seeing a steady light to moderate rainfall. Some brief heavier downpours can’t be ruled out overnight. Temperatures will fall into the mid and upper 40s across the region.
The rain should taper off to scattered rain showers during the early morning hours on Thursday. Conditions should remain mostly cloudy & unsettled Thursday afternoon, with temperatures struggling into the upper 50s and low 60s for afternoon highs on Thursday. Rainfall totals of a half inch to an inch or so appear possible with this system. Please plan accordingly if travelling tonight, as the rain could cause reduced visibilities and slick roadways.
