Weekend Discussion : Summer Holding On in October

An absolutely gorgeous first weekend of October across the Hudson Valley. A massive ridge of high pressure has settled over eastern North America, and allowed for a surge of late season warmth across the eastern US. This same ridge of high pressure will be protecting the region from any precipitation over the next 5 days… which is something we actually could use. But at least for the weekend into the start of the work week… we can expect lots of sunshine, blue skies… and very warm weather.

?Saturday Afternoon: Sunshine & blue skies. Very warm. Highs in the low 80s.
?Saturday Night: Mainly clear and mild for October. Low in the mid 50s.
?Sunday: Mostly sunny, gorgeous and hot. High in the low to mid 80s!
?Sunday Night: Mostly clear and mild again. Low in the low to mid 50s.
?Monday: Partly cloudy and continued warm. Highs near 80°.

This late summer warmth will continue into the work week. Afternoon highs in the low 80s are about 10° to 15° above average for early October. By this point in the season, average highs are in the mid 60s, and average lows in the mid 40s. So if you have outdoor plans this weekend… enjoy! It’s going to be perfect.

?Please be mindful however… that conditions are becoming quite dry around the Hudson Valley once again. Rainfall has been rather sparce over the past 60 days have been roughly 50% of normal… so drought conditions are on the increase once again. This also means the fire danger is rising… so be very cautious and avoid outdoor uncontrolled flames.
This warmth will break by mid week, as a cold front from Canada will bring a threat of rain Wednesday into Thursday… followed by the coldest air of the season so far. Highs on Thursday in the low 60s, with overnight lows in the mid 30s… meaning our first frost of the season is possible (if not likely). Make sure you are prepared for that possibility as we go through the week.

Have a great weekend Hudson Valley!
