Weekend Outlook: Memorial Day Weekend Forecast

With the holiday weekend on our doorstep, many people will have plans and be anxious if Mother Nature will cooperate. By now, many of you probably aware of the forecast in some capacity, so there’s no sense in burying the lead. Our holiday weekend weather is not going to be very nice at all… and those with outdoor plans will need to begin making alternate arrangements, or make sure you have the rain gear handy.

So with that out of the way, lets talk about the specifics..
– Saturday… will start out cloudy with drizzle developing, and becoming a steady light rain by mid day across the Hudson Valley from west to east. The light rain (moderate at times) will fall steadily through the afternoon and into the evening hours on Saturday. Temperatures will fall slowly as the rain increases… starting in the upper 50s and dipping close to 50° by later in the afternoon, and even some 40s in the northern valley.
– Saturday Night… Cloudy with periods of light to moderate rain. Temps falling into the upper 40s (low 40s in Catskills).
– Sunday… Periods of steady light rain showers should become scattered in nature during the day. The details about timing and intensity of the rain will need to be updated on Saturday, but there’s a chance the showers taper off for a time later Sunday afternoon. But as a whole Sunday is looking rainy and cool, with temps in the upper 50s to low 60s.
– Monday… Cloudy and unsettled, with scattered showers possible, especially in the morning. Some breaks of sun possible later in the day. Warmer. Temps in the low to mid 70s.
Saturday looks like the worst of the three days. Once the rain moves in, it is likely to be a steady, soaking rain. That soaking rain stays with us through Saturday night.
Sunday looks unsettled in the morning, but we could see a scenario where a few peeks of afternoon sun are possible. At a minimum, there’s a chance the rain tapers off for a portion of the afternoon.
Monday has a chance to be a decent day. We likely start off cloudy, even a scattered rain shower or two… but there’s an increasing chance of sunshine through the afternoon on Monday, and most importantly for anyone with plans… the afternoon on Monday looks dry. So perhaps Monday plans can be salvaged. But with systems like this… the details are “everything”, and unfortunately those details won’t become more clear until we get inside of 24 hours. So you’ll want to check back for updates through the weekend.

Unfortunately, our holiday weekend weather will likely leave something to be desired… but we’ll all have to do our best make the most of it. Have a great start to your weekend everyone, and check back for updates as we go through the weekend.
