– Wet snow / wintry mix likely Tuesday afternoon
– Transition to rain Tuesday night
– Slushy coating to an inch or so possible, mainly on grass
A pattern change is on the way for the eastern half of the US and the Hudson Valley. After a very cold winter, the last two weeks finally gave us a break from the bitter cold air. Now as we move into March… the first half of the month looks poised to bring us the warmest temperatures since October. But before we can get there, we have one more winter weather event to get through.
A weak warm front approaches on Tuesday, and will spread some light precipitation into the Hudson Valley during the afternoon hours. Temperatures are expected to be in the low to mid 30s, and a period of wet snow is possible before changing over to a cold rain Tuesday night. With the wet snow falling during the day, and temperatures at or above freezing, a slushy accumulation of a coating to 2 inches appears possible on unpaved surfaces. But we expect temperatures in the mid levels to rise above freezing near sunset… and wet snow should transition to a plain, cold rain. A few icy spots are possible in some of the sheltered colder valleys… but temps should hold just above freezing Tuesday night.
We’ll continue to track this as we get closer… but the timing of this event, combined with the temps being at or above freezing… should keep this from being a major impact event.
